A graduate of the University of Melbourne, Peter is a Cardiologist who also specializes in Interventional Cardiology. This field of Cardiology uses techniques such as balloon angioplasty and the insertion of stents to open up the arteries of the heart that are severely blocked.
Peter works at Northern Health and is a Professor of Medicine with the Department of Medicine, The University of Melbourne. He has admitting rights to the Warringal Private Hospital in Heidelberg and the St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Fitzroy.
He has an active research interest in the study of heart disease and is a pioneer of the use of optical coherence tomography, a highly detailed camera that is inserted into the arteries of the heart to look at the fatty cholesterol build up and to examine stents once they are inserted. He introduced this technology into Australia in 2009 after completing his PhD at the prestigious Thoraxcenter in the Netherlands and the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, United Kingdom. Peter continues to publish numerous journal articles and is frequently invited to both National and International Cardiology Conferences as a Guest Speaker.
He sees patients with all elements of heart disease including coronary disease, heart failure, arrhythmias and valve disease.
